How to sharpen a Serrated Pen Knife

A ceramic honing rod is the right tool for manually sharpening your serrated knife. The rod’s shape is designed to fit inside the blade’s serrations.

Sharpen each tooth individually.

When sharpening your knife, always start at the back end of the blade. Place the ceramic sharpening rod in the serrated groove.

The groove is referred to as the “gullet.”

Position the rod to match the beveled angle of the chiseled cut in the gullet.

If you hold the sharpening rod flush with the bevel, you’ll automatically have the correct angle.

Now, slide the rod through the gullet toward the blade’s edge, which does the cutting.

Do this for each gullet. It should only take a few passes for each one.

Resharpening the gullets with a honing rod also helps to reestablish sharp tips on the teeth.
